Keep Your Flame Burning
In our lives there tends to be work or tasks we have to do, want to do and love to do. However all too often the work we love to do gets put to the bottom of the pile.
We put off those things that give us the greatest joy, not realising that when we do these tasks they are the real fuel that powers us to do the tasks that fit into the work we have to do or need to do. If we never refuel the tank, we start running on empty, whether that is emotionally, mentally or physically empty.
I know I have used this quote before … You don’t have as much time as you think you have in life. Someone shared with me a tragic story of a guy who worked hard, had a successful career and a loving family. He retires on his 60th birthday and 6 months before he is due to retire he and his wife plan and prepare their boat to sail up to Cairns on their long extended, no agenda or schedule trip.
On the Friday he retires, his company throws a great party, followed by a family and friends dinner. On the Saturday he visits his boat to put on the final touches and packing of goods on-board for their Monday departure. What happened next, happens all too often – he has a heart attack and dies at the Marina.
