Small Actions Build Momentum

Over the last few weeks I have been very focused on conquering one of my health and fitness goals. Each week I have a milestone I want to achieve, but more importantly I have a ritual each day that I want to complete and this is where I focus my attention. Whether that be how far I want to walk, the number of steps I would like to take, the foods I won’t eat or the number of minutes of exercise I do, I have a ritual each day.

The 4 great things about having a ritual is that it gives you:

  1. Consistency—With a consistent approach you build a solid platform to reach your goal or how you want to feel each day.
  2. Confidence—If procrastination is the greatest robber of self-confidence, then self-discipline is the greatest enhancer of self-confidence. The discipline to implement a small action each day is great for your esteem.
  3. Achievement—If you do something each day for a length of time, you will achieve your goal. Little steps completed consistently will win the prize.
  4. Momentum—When you have momentum—the sense of those small wins behind you—you create great determination to take the next step. Having momentum in just one part of your life is far greater than the type of motivation you may have in any given moment.

So whatever your ritual is, here is a challenge for the next 7 days:
What is 1 action you can take every day for the next 7 days that will make you feel great about you, and move you closer to either how you want to feel or what you want to achieve?

Here is mine:
Being still and meditating for 15 minutes each day, then journaling my thoughts and ideas.

What’s yours?
