You will have not doubt heard the old saying practice makes perfect, yet what it should really be is Practice Makes Permanent. In my mind the more you practice something there are only 2 desired results … one of progress and the other of embedding.
Let’s look at it … perfection often seems so far away, that we sometimes don’t even get started because of the task ahead. The other aspect is in reality do you really need to be perfect at some of your rituals or the areas of your life that you want to become effective at or even become more masterful at?
I know that there are certain skills you need to be perfect at … Brain Surgeon for example. The last thing you want is a Brain Surgeon to say to you prior to your operation … so what we are going to do is dig around in your skull and see what we find, I will just start hacking and see where it takes us!
So to build any ritual that stands the test of time, a ritual that creates how you want to feel, that fuels your internal drive, then just start by doing it today. Then see if you can string two days together, then shoot for your own personal best and do three days. What record could your create? Four days, fourteen days, twenty-four days?
Think of it this way, if Practice Makes Permanent, then Progress Creates Motivation!
